The Fringe

The Fringe Website

The Fringe's humble beginnings start in Lackawaxen, PA in the early 80's by founding members Andrew Larkin and Clint Chappey. After several personnel changes, the band seemed to hit its stride in the mid 80's with Andrew Larkin (vocals & guitar) and two brothers; James (Pizza) DeFebo (bass guitar) and Chucky DeFebo (percussion & vocals). The band was known for its lead singer's gutsy, unique vocals, powerful guitar, and skillful ability to write original songs. This coupled with great stage presence and unusual cover songs, thoughtfully crafted and performed, gave this band an edge. The true statement of the band was when they were playing live, and the raw, unrelenting energy oozed from the band nightly.

The early days provided much success for the three-piece band, writing and recording many original pieces, highlighted by their appearance in front of forty-thousand people during the August 1989 Woodstock Festival. Shortly thereafter several life changes forced the group to disband, but this pushed its members to grow on an individual level both creatively and musically.

The un-timely death of bass player/showman, James (Pizza) DeFebo in late 1995 was a very difficult time for the band members. Then, due to nothing less than an act of fate during 2007, the founding members reunited with later members to produce the line up of today. Andy Larkin, Clint Chappey (bass & vocals), Chucky DeFebo, and Willy Alfieri (guitar) have since re-emerged with a renewed desire to do "What they do" which is to play great music for all to enjoy.

There is something very special in this band that you connect with. It could be the simple no-nonsense, melodic songs, the emotional intensity with great dynamics or that "in the pocket" feel, but whatever it is, "The Fringe" pushes the limits and makes it fun everywhere they play!
